    The 2019 New School Psychologist Orientation is free and has a target audience of current School Psychology Interns and first year School Psychologists in the State of Connecticut. The 2019 New School Psychologist Orientation has a different program than the 2018 New School Psychologist Orientation.

    This event is sponsored by the Connecticut Association of School Psychologists, the Connecticut State Department of Education, and the Department of Educational Psychology: School Psychology at UConn.

    Advanced Threat Assessment: Current Best Practice Updates and a Case Study Review

    This workshop will examine the most current research and recommendations to ensure your school's threat assessment process is incorporating the most recent best practice guidelines. Dr. Reeves trains school districts in school-based threat assessment, in addition to being involved in working threat management cases. She will share information learned in regards to current best practices and implementation challenges, in addition to providing an analysis of lessons learned in recent cases. Important findings will be discussed with an emphasis on the role of the school psychologist and SRO, the critical importance of establishing a multidisciplinary threat assessment team, and the systemic barriers that complicated information sharing, documentation, and follow-up planning and supports. Specific recommendations for improving the implementation of best practice threat assessment protocols will be provided.

    Learner Objectives: This session will help participants learn strategies and resources to enhance identification of threats, including social media;analyze case study data to identify strengths and opportunities missed when determining level of concern; and discuss specific strategies that need to be implemented to improve the school/district’s implementation of the threat assessment process.Prerequisite Knowledge Basic understanding of school-based threat assessment.Practical Tools This session will leave participants with the following tools:Attendees will be provided a threat assessment screener, full threat assessment protocol, and an implementation guide they can take back to their schools for use. Permission granted to tailor protocols to fit district/school needs.
