CASP Forum and Panel Discussion: Understanding DSM-5-TR Diagnosis in School Psychology Practice

In response to recent discussions discussion held by the NASP leadership which were highlighted in the September 2025 issue of the Communique about DSM-5-TR diagnoses, CASP is hosting a forum and panel discussion to address pressing questions and concerns among our membership. This session will focus on two critical issues:

  1. Legal and Ethical Considerations: Are school psychologists in Connecticut permitted or prohibited from offering a diagnostic impression based on the DSM-5-TR when evaluating students in public school districts?

  2. Seeking Authoritative Guidance: Which governing bodies or organizations can school psychologists turn to for clear, authoritative guidance on this practice issue within Connecticut?

The forum will feature expert panelists providing members with a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The goal is to offer clarity and help school psychologists navigate these complex issues in their daily practice.

The confirmed panel members for this event are:

Chris Brown, Moderator - CASP President

Dr. Tony Crespi, University of Hartford

Kara Dugan, School Psychology Dept. Facilitator - Manchester Public Schools

Kate Kieley, School Psychologist - Shelton Public Schools

Dr. Mike Regan, Fairfield University

Dr. Lynn Sellon, Fairfield University

You can attend this Forum in-person for free.  We will also live stream the event and there will be a fee of $12.50.  Choose your option when you click the registration link.

We encourage all CASP members to attend and engage in this important discussion. For more context, please review the Communique article.
